This was the first time I was away from home and living in a dorm with strangers (some of who are my best friends now). The dorm was a mile from the university campus. There were two options to get to the dorm from the university. First option was a dirt road that quickly got filled with water during monsoon (rainy season). Second was a sidewalk to a major freeway, and it was also a quarter mile shorter than the dirt road.
On September 12th 1995, it was raining hard and the dirt road was filled with water. I and two of my roommates used the freeway sidewalk. Halfway down the road, something hit me hard from behind. I was pushed on the ground and before I could do anything I was trapped under an eighteen wheeler. The rear wheels of an eighteen wheeler were over my right thigh. I was badly wounded from head to toe. I had to go through several surgeries and lost a year of college.
I went through a depression phase and felt like a victim blaming the circumstances, rain and anything I could include my parents. I didn't want to go back to the college. My father was my first mentor as he coached me to be strong and motivated me to complete my undergrad program. Then someone introduced me to Tony Robbin's "Awaken the Giant Within" book. I applied Tony's teachings and successfully completed the undergrad program.
